Gloria Victis Dice Game (Dice Poker) — Rules, Odds & Can You Win?
It's a Yahtzee-style skill game — and the simulation says yes, you can win.
A Yahtzee/Yatzy-style 'Dice Poker' minigame (added in Update v0.8.8.7; present in V1.5.0). Played at capital-tavern dice tables vs the NPC innkeeper or vs another player.

The rules
- 5 six-sided dice, up to 3 rolls per turn (hold-and-reroll any subset, like Yahtzee).
- Fill a 13-category scoresheet — Ones…Sixes (upper) + Three/Four-of-a-Kind, Full House, Small & Large Straight, General (5-of-a-kind), Chance (lower). Each category used once; an unclaimable forced row scores 0.
- Game ends when the sheet is full; highest total wins.
- vs the NPC innkeeper: no gold stake — you earn a stackable Loot-Chance buff (+1% loot & XP per stack, up to +5%, 60 min; innkeeper = 1 stack, player = 2; a game under 3 min gives 0).
- vs a player (PvP): wager gold, winner takes the pot — 1:1, no house rake.
Can you actually win? We simulated it.
Monte-Carlo, 40,000 games per matchup, both US-Yahtzee and European-Yatzy scoring:
| Matchup | Win rate | Avg score |
|---|---|---|
| You (decent play) vs the NPC innkeeper (weak — 'rolls low') | ~99.9–100% | ~174 vs ~46 |
| You vs an equally-skilled player (PvP) | ~49–50% (fair coin-flip) | ~174 vs ~174 |
| Careless vs careless | ~49% | ~46 vs ~46 |
Yes — you can win, decisively. Dice Poker is pure skill (Yahtzee) with no house edge against you. The NPC innkeeper plays badly, so a competent player beats the house essentially every game — a near-free farm of the loot-chance buff. In PvP it's 1:1 with zero rake, so your expected value =
(2 × win-rate − 1) × stake: break-even vs an equal opponent, positive whenever you're the better player. The only way to lose money is PvP against someone better or luckier — you cannot be bled by a rigged house.Winning strategy
- Lock the upper-section +35 bonus (reach 63 in Ones–Sixes — about three of each number).
- Keep your biggest matching die-group; chase a straight only when 4 distinct dice already line up.
- Never burn General / straights on junk — dump forced zeros into Ones.
- vs the innkeeper, just play steadily — it 'rolls low' and you'll win almost always for the buff.
