Gloria Victis Beginner Guide: Your First Hours
The fast path through your first hours — and the mistakes that make people quit.
Gloria Victis throws you in with little hand-holding. Here's the fast path through your first few hours so you skip the mistakes that make new players quit. GameRant: beginner tips ↗
Pick a nation by feel — and by population
No stat differences, so choose the look you like, ideally the most active nation (often Midlanders). Roll where your friends or an active guild are.
Learn the keybinds early
Hold Alt to interact with the UI, and open the menu/keybinds from the cog on the hotbar. Five minutes here saves an hour of confusion.
Do the starter quests & practice combat
Use weak mobs to drill heavy attacks and directional blocking before you risk PvP.
Gather with the right tool
Pickaxe for ore/clay, woodcutter's axe for logs, sickle for crops. The wrong tool is painfully slow. Craft at town stations for better quality and XP. See crafting.
Eat, and bank your valuables
Keep fed (hunger debuffs you) and stash anything you'd hate to lose in your capital depot before you wander into the Loot Zone.
Join a guild — this is the real onboarding
Gloria Victis is a team game. A guild gets you gear, mentors, and people to fight alongside. Don't grind alone.
Common new-player mistakes
- Spamming attacks like a tab-target game (you'll run out of stamina and die).
- Only using light attacks — charged heavies do the real damage.
- Ignoring hunger and eating the debuffs.
- Using the wrong gathering tool (huge time waste).
- Carrying valuables into the Loot Zone instead of banking them first.
- Expecting to win early fights — early PvP is gear-gated; it's normal.
