Gloria Victis Builds — How to Develop a Character Build (Classless)
It's classless — a "build" is three levers (attributes, weapon line, gear) you grow over time. Here's how to develop one.
The three levers of a build
- Attributes — points into Strength (melee damage), Constitution (health/survivability), or Dexterity (archery/finesse). Melee leans Strength/Constitution; ranged leans Dexterity.
- Weapon line — your weapon skill rises the more you use that weapon type, so committing to one line early compounds. Pick it on best starting weapon.
- Gear tier — crafted weapons and armour roll from +1 up to +6 quality, and tier matters as much as stats. A higher-tier kit narrows the gap with a more-experienced opponent — but the gear gap itself is the #1 new-player wall, so read the gear-gap reality before you expect it to carry you.
Leveling order that actually sticks
Because skills grow by use, the durable approach is to commit to one weapon line first and one defensive stat (Constitution) so you survive long enough to learn directional combat — then widen into a second weapon or a craft once the basics are muscle memory. You don't lose your first line by leveling a second; weapon and gathering skills are additive.
Hybrid & crafter builds (the classless payoff)
The build most worth its time for a solo or small-group player is economic: pair a combat line with a crafting profession (mining, forging, alchemy) so you can supply your own gear, fix the gear gap yourself, and make gold. There's no penalty for branching into crafts.

Ten complete builds, each with the best weapons, an exact attribute spread, the passive/skill order, armor, playstyle, and strengths/weaknesses. Sourced from the official wiki + community consensus, V1.5.0:
2H Axe Bruiser
Frontline 2H melee DPS — the canonical sturdy bruiser.
Shieldman (1H + Shield Tank)
Frontline tank, damage soak, shield-wall anchor, door-plugger.
Spear / Halberd / Polearm (Reach)
Reach DPS & zoning, second-line poker, anti-cavalry, siege MVP.
Archer / Bow (Ranged DPS)
Ranged DPS, siege defense, softening & finishing, killing siege operators.
Dagger / Assassin / Flanker
Flanker / backstabber / bleed — best as a SECONDARY (e.g. on an archer), not a primary.
2H Sword (STR+DEX Hybrid)
The most popular, most forgiving DPS / duelist — the only main-DPS weapon that scales on BOTH STR and DEX.
Medic / Healer (Medic Tree)
Revives + healing + second-line heavy fighter — keeps the shield-wall alive.
Cavalry (Mounted — Lance & Horse Archer)
Mobile DPS, flanking, chasing, scouting. Rule: build for foot combat too — your horse WILL die.
Light Skirmisher (Glass Cannon)
Max-damage roamer/flanker — a bruiser in light armor with throwables.
Breaker (Anti-Shield / Anti-Cavalry)
Shield-breaker & anti-cav specialist — the hard counter to Shieldmen and Cavalry.
