Gloria Victis Nations: Midlanders vs Ismirs vs Sangmar

Three nations, no stat advantages — so pick by look, lore, and who's active.

No nation has built-in stat advantages — faction gear is balanced and the choice is about lore, look, and which community is active. You can switch later via the underdog system or a Nation Change Scroll. GameRant: nations explained ↗

Midlanders

Continental medieval Europe

Classic high-medieval Europe — armored knights, castles, chivalric order. Historically the most populated nation, so the easiest place to find active guilds and help.

For beginners: The usual beginner pick — biggest population means the most guilds, mentors, and bodies on the field.

Ismirs

Scandinavian / Viking

Norse raider culture — fur, axes, longships, clan honor. Aggressive, raid-focused flavor.

For beginners: Great if Viking aesthetics pull you in; population swings, so check who's active before committing.

Sangmar Empire

Byzantine / Romanesque + nomad Azeb

Eastern-Mediterranean imperial grandeur fused with desert-nomad culture (the Azeb are part of Sangmar, not a separate nation). Striking black-and-gold identity.

For beginners: Pick for the look and lore; like Ismirs, scout current activity first.

So which do I pick?

Because there's no mechanical advantage, the right pick is: (1) the nation whose look and lore you like, and (2) the one that's most active right now so you have allies. For most brand-new players that's Midlanders — historically the biggest, with the most guilds to take you in. If you have friends already playing, just roll their nation.

You're not locked forever — you can switch later via the underdog system or a Nation Change Scroll, so don't agonize over it.
